Heater shuts off as soon as the room is warm
I usually set the temp at 71 and set it in the auto - low mode. But as soon as the room temp is 71 say from 67 or 68, the heater turns itself off.
It was working perfectly last winter, but now it's not reliable 'coz as soon as i am asleep - it's stops working and i wake in the middle of the night 'coz it's too cold.

I take it once the temp is set to 71, and the ambient temp reaches 68 or so, it shuts off, never to come on again?
If that is true the thermostat in the unit is damaged, worn out or in need or replacement, but try a couple tricks.
First, if there are access panels to clean, clean it per the manual, it could be that a dirty filter or air inlet is confusing the thermostat.
Next, unplug the unit for at least 5 minutes, try it again.
Next set the unit on it's highest temp and blower setting, let it rip for 20 minutes, shut it down, unplug and remain unplugged for 5 minutes.
Next set the unit at 71 HIGH MODE.
see if we have a mode switch problem or thermostat if it works on high mode, it is not the thermostat, but I imagine it is, but I am curious as to if it once goes off, it never again comes back on?

I say that because sometimes things are critical and people can't find anyone, or take advantage of people in a spot.
My guess is the mode thing, being on low, tells me the unit is dirty, and the low air flow on the auto low, is causing either a perfectly working overload device, or a weakened overload device.
Space heaters are the culprit in so many fires, and you are sleeping when this one fails,
So how do I say without my liability on the line, and your health and welfare on the line, that all is fine?
I doubt there is huge problem, I doubt you need to fret, but you are more important than a space heater.
I assume that funds are an issue, if I am incorrect, look into a new infared bulb type heater, they are as cheap to run on electric power as any element electric space heater, safer, don't dry out the air, cheap to run, and look nice.
Fret no, concerned, yes, any space heater should operate in any mode, without fail, especially if you are sleeping with it on.
Speaking of safety, how are your smoke detectors, in place, new batteries, tested RECENTLY?
That would make me feel better just knowing that.

I don't know if you are talking a 400 watt or a 1000 watt.
