Hello, I recently installed a wireless router on my desktop home computer. Immediately upon installing the router, my Labtec desktop speakers quit producing sound. The speakers do work on another computer, I have used troubleshotting options on my computer, at Microsoft.com, and Microsoft Mr. Fix It to resolve the problem and still have no sound. I do not feel comfortable opening a computer and checking the sound card. Can you help? Thank you, Kathy
Hmmm.. sounds like assignments got crossed/reassigned possibly when the router was installed.
Have you looked down the list of System Hardware (control panel) to see if you have any Exclamation Marks that indicate a problem to look at?
Have you looked at the settings on the speakers in the computer? i.e. mute, equalizers, volume sliders, and even some audio software differentiates between the different connections on the back and front of your computer. Try clicking or right-clicking on the little speaker in your system tray (the icons at the end of the Start bar).. you may even have an icon in there for an audio program that you want to check out.
You can try a previous restore point, but pay special note of anything you've installed or changed since that time.
Just installing software for the router shouldn't necessitate opening up the computer, although an old tactic would be to pull the sound card out and reseat it back into the slot. Since you don't want to do that, I don't think you're missing anything unless you bumped it by accident when you were attaching the cable to the router. Since it was "immediate" I would be focused on software issues as you indicate.
You might even check out the support for the Labtec website rather than the MS route you've taken already.
