Hello I was just wondering if this board will support a SATA DVD Player? I noticed that there were some SATA ports near the bottom of the board but I was under the impression that they were for HDD connections only

Yes you can use the Sata connection for that drive,running the drive (DVD player) depends on your Operating system and updateing your drivers.Enjoy your movies....
