Help! I'm stuck and stumped. 2001 Beetle GLS 2.0 - Two weeks ago the car was overheating quickly, red temperature light flashing and beeping. I changed the thermostat, flushed the radiator and filled it with new fluid. As soon as I did that, the interior heat quit working, not even warm. So I took on the task of a new water pump behind the timing belt. Sure enough the fan on the water pump was melted and mangled. Put in a new water pump, new timing belt and tensioner from napa. A week later the car was overheating again and leaking a good amount of radiator fluid from the new water pump itself. Took it off and back to Napa and put on a new one yesterday. Today, it is overheating again. What's going on?!?! I don't think there is blockage because both the inlet and outlet hoses have heat and movement. HELP

SOUND LIKE COOLANT FANS HAS A FAULTY THERMO SWITCH LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR ON LEFT HAND SIDE.CHECK THE FUSES 8 IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHECK FUSE 16 IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX.WHEN ENGINE OVERHEATING IF BOTH COOLING FANS WORKING.OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE BLOWN HEAD GASKET.CHECK ENGINE OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK HEAD GASKET LEAKING.SEE WHEN YOU DRIVING LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS THE COOLING FANS SUPPOSE TO BE RUNNING.IF THEY NOT RUNNING THAT IS YOUR OVER HEATING PROBLEM.
New thermo switch installed, same issues. Cooling fans work fine. There is no fuse box in the engine compartment, Fuse 8 is for a Telephone System (not installed) and Fuse 16 is for the AC clutch. Sorry HotChevy, your advice did not help resolve this issue.
I AM LOOKING AT IGNITION TIMING OFF AND FAULTY RADIATOR CAP.DO YOUR CAR OVER HEATING WHILE MOVING OR SETTING STILL..IF OVERHEATING MOVING FANS RUNNING YOUR ENGINE BLOCK AND RADIATOR NEED FLUSHING AT A RADIATOR SHOP.THEY NEED PRESSURIZE THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND LOOK FOR CRACK HEAD OR LEAKING HEAD GASKETS.
