Hi. i bought the ion powerplay lp usb and i just can't get any sound by playing or recording. i'm using windows 7 and probably it's just a setting. could you please help me out? many thanks in advance
This is a plug-and-play USB device so you don't need to install any drivers. Assuming the Software CD was included with the turntable and you've installed it, then you probably need to setup USB playback/recording by selecting the Ion Powerplay as the recording device in the Sound control panel and adjusting the volume/levels.
Open the Windows Control Panel, choose Hardware and Sound, then select Sound. Next, click on the Recording tab at the top of the sound control panel window and make sure the Ion Powerplay is selected as the current recording device. The selected device will have a green tick next to it.
Once you have selected the Ion Powerplay as your recording device, double-click on its icon (ringed in red above) or click it with your right mouse button and choose Properties from the pop-up menu to open the settings. Select the levels tab and adjust the microphone volume and/or boost. Also, make sure it's not set to mute, indicated by a red circle with a line through it on the speaker icon.
Finally, if this doesn't solve the problem, shut down and reboot. You shouldn't need to do this but sometimes it's necessary in Windows for no apparent reason.
This should be all you need to do. Try this then let me know if you need further assistance. You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.
1. If you're connecting the turntable to a USB hub, connect it directly to a USB port on your laptop instead and try different USB ports. Not all USB ports are the same type! 2. Make sure you're selecting USB Audio Codec as your recording device in the sound control panel 3. Under the Advanced tab of the properties for the USB Audio Codec device, make sure the 2 options under the heading Exclusive Mode are both unchecked.
Finally, if you still can't get it to work, I'd suggest working through the Ion troubleshooting guide:
It wasn't entirely clear from your last message whether you've tried another USB recording device on your PC?
If you're certain all of your audio settings are correct as detailed in the troubleshooting guide, you need to establish whether it's an issue with USB audio recording or hardware on your PC, whether there is a fault with the turntable or whether it's possibly a compatibility issue with Windows 7. There isn't anything else I can suggest until you've done this. The following will determine what to do next.
- If you have a USB microphone or headset (or can borrow one), connect this to you PC and use the green bars to verify it's working. This will determine whether it's likely to be a hardware or audio settings issue.
- Try connecting the turntable to another PC - ideally running XP or Vista. This will prove the turntable isn't defective and whether it's potentially a Windows 7 issue.
I can only point you in the right direction to determine where the problem lies. At the moment, there are too many variables to suggest any possible fixes. It would also help to know whether the Ion turntable is correctly recognised in the recording devices as "USB Audio Codec"

A couple more points:
