Hi, I have a question about a 220v motor on a boat lift. The motor will operate fine in the down operation and will work fine when the boat is in the water starting up with no load. However, if you were to stop the lift, say half way up, and start up again, the motor will not start and by that I mean it will turn very slow and after about 10 seconds will trip the fuse. After that, I have to lower the boat down again and start with no load and it will be fine unless I stop again. The motor is approx. 15 years old in salt water environment. I have replaced the capacitor and checked all the connections and appear to be ok. I'm just wondering if the motor windings could just be old and need to replace the motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks David

Before you do anything else, grease all bearings on the lift gears and pipe bearings or sleeves. Also check all wiring connectrions out to the dock and try a different source if you have one.
Sounds like a low voltage problem. You might be experiencing line loss. measure the voltage with no load. measure the voltage running on a down load. measure the voltage stopped and the while measuring, operate up, and watch for a volt drop. If the voltage is low only on the up operation size your cable up. if a bit low in all measurements you have a supply problem. let me know!

15 years in a salt water environment is enough to mess with the windings in any motor
I'll bet the motor is looking at the gates to motor heaven
