Hi i have a Samson EX500 Subwoofer that makes a farting noise when driven. someone told me that it sounds like a dry joint in the capacitor but there is no movement to the solder at all. can you advise if this could be anything else please? thanks stephen

Most likely induced vibration caused solder pad fracturing at one or both large toroidal inductors perpendicular to and close to the heat sink. You should also carefully insert fish paper insulators between these coils and nearby bare metal parts to prevent arcing when the laquer insulation wears (also due to vibration).
Be careful to discharge the 2 main electrolytic capacitors on the power supply circuit board prior to doing any soldering or instant component destruction may result.
