Hi - I have only had my Lacie 500g Hard disk for a few weeks and out of nowhere it will no longer register on my Mac when plugged in. Upon turning it on it makes a whirring noise and the occasional single beep can be heard. I have not dropped it - it has been very well looked after. I am not particularly computer minded so am hoping there is an easy solution - if not please just let me know if it needs to be sent off to be fixed. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Try it out with another computer and see if it's working or not, if not try with a spare usb cable because maybe that's the case or try it out with a different kind of cable if possible like esata or firewire if possible, if still nothing, than bring it back to the shop in warranty, and maybe consider to try to get a different drive wich is made by the manufacturer who did the HDD inside it. You can find Seagate, Western Digital and Maxtor (Maxtor is owned by Seagate) for soure. If it turns out that it's an OSX problem than another expert is more than wellcome to sort it out.
