Hi, I received a Crosman Phantom Model CSWM77 Break Barrel Air Rifle for Christmas. I have just tried top load the rifle and the barrel does not break as shown in the manual illustrations. I don't want to apply excessive pressure to break the barrel to the loading position. I have another Crosman Air Rifle and have not had a problem at all. This new rifle seems to have been assembled at the factory and the pivot screw may be too tight or the mecanhical levers that acticvate the break barrel are too tight

Hit the top of the barrel with your hand. Don't be afraid to give it a good whack.
