Hi, my 2001 Pontiac Grand am SE 4 cylinder 2.4 engine has been starting very "rough" as it runs however it eventually fixes itself. Also my coolant has been "disapearing" i keep having to refill the coolant every few days. I took it in to a local chevy dealer and they said i needed a new head gasket and fuel pressure regulator and wanted to charge me 3500 dollars for the repair. This car isnt even worth that much money! Can anyone help?! ive been looking around and it seems that the pressure regulator is not that hard of a fix to do by myself, is this true? if so how do you change it?

Probably needs cylinder head and gasket, for that rice. Cylinder head gasket is around $1700-1800.00. Fuel pressure regulator is not too difficult, you have to disconnect fuel line where it goes into fuel rail. and remove regulator, then install new regulator and put fuel line back in. You will loose some fuel, so loosen fuel line slowly, and put a rag around it to keep if from spraying out too badly. Hope this helps.
