I had a similar problem with my 1985 chevy pickup. I could drive to town and shut off motor come back 30 minutes later would not start. I would take off my distributor cap check for loose wires put it back together and would start right up. Ended up being the coil in distributor changed coil no more problems. The engine heat would create an open circuit in coil once it cooled down would be fine.
