The first thing to check is that the brush bar is rotating when the machine is switched on and lowered into the vacuuming position. If it isn't, make sure the brush control dial is in the centre position and moves forward to the on position when the head is released.

I would do a quick swap out of the cyclone unit and see if there is a difference, also did you clean out the cyclone recently/ever?
