Hi My GE fridge model DSS25KSRASS has lots of frost on the evaporator coil. It's not the heater coil--it has continuity--what could be my problem? Does the GE DSS25KSRASS have a defrost timer? Thanks
Your model has a control board instead of timer that controls defrost. So if you’ve already ruled out heater, then that leaves defrost thermostat and defrost thermistor, and board. Typically it’s the board although thermostat and thermistor are much more inexpensive than board if you want to try them first.
Be sure to check the gasket around the door if it has a gap in pools in humidair the moisture will freeze on the coil. Especially if the fan is running and the freezer is remaining at desired temperature this is a common problem it does have a defrost but you would have more icing up than just Frost. Make sure doors closing all the way and door gasket is not worn leaving a gap for outside air to get in.
Basic older fridges have mechanical defrost timer usually a hole on back of fridge allows you to turn defrost timer with flathead until it clicks into defrost that way you can see if it comes out of defrost it's good if it don't the timer isn't turning and it's bad. More expensive o we have digital controls and defrost termination bringing fridge out of defrost when it senses frost has melted and can be found in the manual of you can adjust settings but it's rare just the defrost wouldn't work on these because if the control was bad the whole digital display would be blank or not work at all not jus the defrost. But reading the manuals on this type helps learn how defrost works and what you can do to test itBasic older fridges have mechanical defrost timer usually a hole on back of fridge allows you to turn defrost timer with flathead until it clicks into defrost that way you can see if it comes out of defrost it's good if it don't the timer isn't turning and it's bad. Unfortunately, I have not heard about such a problem for the first time. The most complete and informative answer you can find on specialized sites about refrigerators. For example, this site always helps me. http://100refrigerator.com/ge-refrigerator-troubleshooting/
