Hi there, I was wondering what is the most I should pay a mechanic to replace my thermostat seal on my Honda CRV automatic 2002 model?
Apparentley, there is a coolant leak where the Thermostat is located & got quoted $600 for the part from Honda Melbourne

Honda aren't noted for Mazda/Mitsubishi/Subaru/Nissan parts pricing unless they have an entirely different policy in Australia from the UK. Here they are renown for reasonable prices alongside Toyota.
Unless I am mistaken (I am not very familiar with the model), the thermostat seal is a rubber ring costing very little and usually this does not fail. Where aluminium housings are used there is a tendency for corrosion to build and push the seal from its position.
Some CR-V models have the thermostat in assembly with the housing. I don't know the OE price but there are plenty of aftermarket offerings and here the cost varies from less than £20 to less than £40 Sterling.

I suggest you do two things - get a second opinion and investigate the offerings of the local factors of aftermarket spare parts.
