First see if the ribbon is spacing a full space for each letter pressed if not you may be in the over strike ribbon mode, to get out of the mode press code and comma, period or slash i'm not sure which one So try them all. If that dosen't help check to be sure the correction tape is not getting in the way, remove the corr. tape and try it. Next remove the ribbon and release the hammer as if you were changing the P/W and see if the plunger in the solenoid is free, if not try a drop or two of WD40 on it.
