Hi,I have a Daihatsu Feroza 1600 efi.Recently we did a long trip and after 4 hours or so the rpm started to fluctuate depending on where i had the foot down on the pedal. We stopped, checked under the hood to see that I hadnt put the radiator cap on properly.Topped up with water and made it home. Then few days later done another big trip.Rpm started playing up.Lifted the hood to discover a radiator pipe had 3 small splits.Drove to the nearest garage where the guy welded the splits.Told me to drive the rest of the trip with the radiator half done up and the heater on hot.Got to my destination and got the pipe replaced. My problem is the rpm is still playing up.Sorry for the big story but thought the more info the better.cheers
Need the big story to get the whole picture ,the garage guy gave you the right info ,heater on and rad cap a bit loose to relieve the pressure, what else did he say about the rpm fluctuation ,because without actually have greasy fingers under the bonnet its difficult to say what the problem could be ,but one thing is you must put antifreeze in the coolant system or you will have the aluminium being attacked by a build of acid and rust deposits. Now as for the rpm fluctuations well it depends on the year and weither you have fly by wire throttle control or a good old fashioned cable. If its as i suspect and its a latrer model with the fly wire control then this is your problem one or the other end is playing up and i would suggest the one under the bonnet on the engine first ,if hot water got in it could have damaged something in the electrical component side ,but do not forget the antifreeze ,,,its very important as a anti corrosion inhibitor
no not really ,this is more of an advanced weekend mechanic job or take to a garage, even i do not understand it that well, although a mechanic for 40 yrs these new fangled electronic things can be slightly iritating to say the least ,but basicaly you have a electric motor that open the butterfly thats controlled by a variable resistor control in the throttle pedal, then to complicate things even further the ECU is involved as well for the fuel control and spark advance.Personally take it to a dealer to have a look and get some idea of the cost involved .This is what i do in cases like this and then charge for my time in running around ,because its cheaper than buying myself fancy software that costs more than i can afford or will take too much time to re coperate the cost involved.Sorry i cannot give you a quick fixit type solution.no not really ,this is more of an advanced weekend mechanic job or take to a garage, even i do not understand it that well, although a mechanic for 40 yrs these new fangled electronic things can be slightly iritating to say the least ,but basicaly you have a electric motor that open the butterfly thats controlled by a variable resistor control in the throttle pedal, then to complicate things even further the ECU is involved as well for the fuel control and spark advance.Personally take it to a dealer to have a look and get some idea of the cost involved .This is what i do in cases like this and then charge for my time in running around ,because its cheaper than buying myself fancy software that costs more than i can afford or will take too much time to re coperate the cost involved.Sorry i cannot give you a quick fixit type solution.
