Hitachi 400GB internl drive not seen
I have a 3 year (and a couple of months!) old Mesh system with a motherboard that is, I believe, an Asus A8V deluxe (according to the specs that came with the unit when new). I've replaced the original Maxtor 300GB drive with a new Hitachi 400GB unit and the machine insists that there is nothing there. I've changed the HDD in case the original unit was faulty but to no avail. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong please?

Hi,
- check/replace IDE cable used;
- check power connector;
- verify master/slave jumper setting;
- reset CMOS/BIOS to default;
- change motherboard IDE connection from IDE1 to IDE2 or vice versa;
- try as a standalone, temporarily remove any other IDE device such as the DVD/CD.
If all else fails and thee HDD works/checks OK in other machines, you may need to update the BIOS of the Asus A8V deluxe. Pls start here. Click on "DOWNLOAD", on the :Input Model to Search" type A8V, in Select Category, choose BIOS, click on Search Info button, follow on screen instructions
