Hitachi Travelstar portable drive is crashing
Hello, My Hitachi Travelstar portable drive HTS541010G9AT00 5400RPM/100GB will mount on my desktop I can then open the disk to see the list of contents but cannot open or transfer any files totalling app 40MB. Each time I try I get the beach ball of death and have to shut down my mac. When I put my ear to the portable drive its as if the drive tries to spin but fails. Can you please help?

I think you need to get a new one.that one sounds like its worn out and needs replaced.if its not allowing you to access whats on the drive then its not going to allow you to do anymore with it.
Sound like you have a faulty drive, or bad power adapter if its external.
