It does not look like a software problem, but as first step reinstall drivers. If printer is connected to the computer, then disconnect USB. Go to control panel, locate the printers folder, and delete the printer. Reinstall printer drivers using disk, or downloading updated drivers from Canon. If that does not fix the problem, the problem is probably the print head position sensing. The position of the print head is sensed through the encoder strip, that is the plastic located near to the traction belt, at t back of the ink carriage, where the heads are sitting.
Try cleaning the encoder strip with cotton and isopropyl alcohol. If that does not work, the problem can be the contact to the print head at the back of the print carriage or the controller board inside the printer. Often a contact will fail always when the printhead is in same position, and that creates defects that always occurr in same place.
Try also changing resolution and see if problem occurrs with less or more resolution.
