This is a Thermal Printer, which means it uses tiny hot wires to create dots on special paper to form the characters. There may be little to nothing you can do to make output better. You can try unplugging the unit from the power source and using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to clean any paper fibers or residue from the face of the print head. More likely than not however is the possibility that you will have to have the print head replaced in order to restore crisp printouts. These print heads, much like the older dot-matrix print heads, have a limited lifetime because of the way they function.
