There could be a switch/lever at the bottom/front of the machine.
It could be you cannot lower the feed dogs and this model uses a feed dog cover.
Refer to the manual and if this is not addressed, try setting the stitch length to zero to stop the movement of the feed dogs and tape an index card (hole for needle) over the feed dogs.
