Make sure your computer is connected to the internet and see if windows updates the driver automatically when you plug it in to the USB port(s) on your computer.

Try going to the Device Manager and scroll down to where is says USB Root Hub. Right click on the top one and click uninstall. Then do this for all the others (although your mouse and keyboard might stop working, so you would have to unplug them and plug them back in again. Then go back to device manager and uninstall all the USB Root Hubs.

Restart your computer and the drivers for the connected USBs will be automatically installed.

Also, check you are using a usb 2.0 and not a 1.1.

If it still doesnt work. Take some isopropyl alcohol (90%) and a cue tip and clean out the USB port on the iPod charger and then plug it after (after it drys) and see if it works. If not, then clean the computer USB port with the cue tip and isopropyl.

Also, check your BIOS to make sure USB options are enabled.

Furthermore try a different ipod cable... However, I found that while the device is plugged in, try twisting the cord with your thumb and index finger, klnd of rolling it so the cord gets twisted. That might be enough to complete the circuit caused by fraying of the cables inside.
