I have a barcode which has a '$I' (Tab) after it. Eg. to the eye the barcode reads *MII$I* but the reader should interpret it as 'MII' and tab to a next field. However, it doesn't do so. It reads it as MII$I.

What should I do to make it read these ascii characters correctly, please? Thank you.
