I have been a dedicated XP user but recently loaded Windows 7 for the first time. I can't claim it was a huge success at first but it did function albeit slowly. The problem was the almost 300 updates it was downloading and installing via wireless even though the automatic updates was switched off. A few days later when updating had completed the laptop became itself again. I find it very similar to XP.
If you can't get Windows 7 to work you either have a hardware or a software problem. Formatting the hard drive and reloading is the best way out of a bad software problem.
