So I just purchased a used Garmin and the previous owner had stripped the bolt as well. I took a Dremel with a small cut off wheel and here was my solution. Since the new band came with bolts I was not worried about keeping the stripped one...
You can always try using a rubber band to help the points grab. Only other option would be to get a dremel and file the tops from the screws then remove them after you have the cover off.
