I have to assume you have tried to remove the bit and it won't come out. Dewalt chucks sometimes "stick" and it takes an extra force to loosen them. Holding the drill in your left hand, point the drill to your right. Take your right hand and grasp the black part farthest to the right. That is the chuck. Twist that black part down. If the bit is tight in the chuck you may have to twist with considerable force. If the chuck won't move by hand you may have to put a strap wrench on it to give you more leverage. If you unfamiliar with a strap wrench, go to amazon.com and just search "strap wrench" Most hardware stores or Sears carries them.

There are to parts to the chuck. You hold the ring at the edge of the chuck from turning, and then you turn the part after that, ccw to release.
