Alright, after doing it the way the manual recommended. I finally added a step.
Push the Net through the hole first. Then I threaded some twine through the loop of net that was sticking through the hole. Bring the twine through the slots on either side of the hole then tie the twine tightly behind the net.
I trimmed the twine to keep things looking neat.
