It could be the battery is just no good. I had mine do that and I took the battery to have it checked and they said it was ok and charged it for me came home started right away but after I turned it off it wouldn't start again so I went and got a new battery and have not had that happen again.
Always check battery voltage 12-13 volts minimum. Always charge lead acid batteries at lowest amp setting for longest charge time, well ventilated area. You can use a car to jump start your mower. Always check all fuses in wiring harness. High amperage charging of a lead acid battery can cause a whole damage thru a section of plates in a cell or through all cell plates. Having run a USMC lead acid battery shop for helicopter support for a year, you get to learn a lot of things, doing maintenance on a couple thousand batteries. I keep a charger/maintainer connected to my lawn equipment during the season, but not during winter!Always check battery voltage 12-13 volts minimum.
