How do I use my simpletech external hard drive. I plug it in and nothing seems to be happening on the computer screen. I can't tell if it's backing up or not.

I have a 500GB and a 1TB. Both drives if they work at all, is because you have to apply the power after usb is connected. The 500MB still good but the 1TB took a big dump.
