Please try to be a little clearer on this question...what balance shafts are you talking about...is this for a car a blade prop for a plane, engine crank balance shafts for a stean engine....not sure what this all means? Thank you, the more precise you are with the question the better folks can be with the repair solutions.

Each balance shaft has two slotted grooves on the inside diameter. One of the grooves on the sprocket will slide onto a woodruf key inserted into a slot near the front end of the balance shaft. On the 83-84 year Porshe 944,each balance shaft sprocket was stamped with on the front with a "O"(Ober or Over) beside one of the slotted grooves and a "U"(Unter or Under) beside the other slotted groove. As one might suspect,on the upper balance shaft, the groove with "O" stamped beside it was installed onto the woodruf key, and on the lower balance shaft, the one with the "U" stamped beside it was installed onto the woodruf key. Each balance shaft has two slotted grooves on the inside diameter. One of the grooves on the sprocket will slide onto a woodruf key inserted into a slot near the front end of the balance shaft.
