How to fix a dead hard drive
I have a maxtor 40gb hard drive innstall on my comp. my problem is it cannot anymore read by my computer,i cant describe the technical terms for this all i can say is i cannot open my computer, my friends said that theres something wrong with my hard disk, i need your advice thanks

Try a low level format. There is a strong possibility that your hard disk will no longer be able to perform normally even after a low level reformatting. Looks like a new hard disk is the answer.
