I found other sources that suggested heating the end of the hose with hot water or a hair dryer. Once it softens slightly you can push it on the metal ball with your hand. A hair dryer did not work for me, so I set the end in almost boiling water for 2 minutes. I tried shorter amounts of time first, but it took a full 2 minutes to work for me.
This is what I wound up doing. In fact, I used the old one with the split segment. I removed the bad segment the same way, then put the remaining end in the boiling water, and it snapped right on. Waited for 20 minutes or so, and it was fixed. I had already spent the money to replace the hose, but now have a spare hose. This is what I wound up doing. Yes, I removed the split segment from the end and then reattached it. I'm happy to not buy a replacement because they seemed a bit expensive when I priced them.Yes, I removed the split segment from the end and then reattached it. To get the plastic hose in: Hammer in one or two of the plastic joints from the plastic hose with a rubber mallet to build the foundation to the metal connector. Once you get the plastic foundation joints into the Dewalt Scroll Saw. It's easy to add rest of the plastic hose in.
