Before testing check for lateral movement of the shaft which would indicate a bad bearing.
According to a doc from ReddyParts.com the pump body is adjustable by loosening the 2 adjustment screws. Slide the pump body down to meet the rotor, then raise the pump body so that there is .003 to .005 clearance. Then tighten the 2 screws. Manually spin the fan for a test.
We have always used a piece of heavy grocery sack for clearance.
