I scratched up my flashlight to figure out how to open and get into a "Battery Lock" style light to replace batteries. Take two pliers, pinch one on the middle section & the other at the tip. Torque hard left as if you are "locking the battery" as advertised. Once it passes a certain area, the tip will come out. Very poor design. Coleman should have made grooves so pliers can easily grip instead of scratching the heck out of the aluminum. Now mine is ugly and could scratch my hand. Even used a towel to grip but still damaged light. Have to now sand down the damaged parts. Not very smart designers. I am Asian, pretty sure this was made in China.
