If you are using VLC and playing a DVD you could always right click the video and look for the subtitle part. If you are playing a video file such as an mpeg or avi or any other format you should also load a subtitle file so that you would have a subtitle. if you only have the video file then.. there is no way for you to place a subtitle on it. unless you could download one that has the right timing to it.
