If you have another vacuum handy (such as a shop vac), put your shop vac hose onto the exhaust and direct it into your other vacuum. Some vacuums allow you attach something to the exhaust, but many have abandoned this very handy design feature. Sometimes a broom handle works too. Where in the hand unit is it stuck?
