I have a (partial & ugly) solution here.
First, copy the entire cd contents into a folder on the computer. e.g. "C:\Program Files\The Learning Company\Reader Rabbit Reading 6-8 full cd copy" Then run the installer from \INSTALL\SETUP32.EXE
DO NOT delete the files which you copied off the cd.
What this does is it installs the program as if it installed off the cd, and creates initialization files which look to check that a certain file exists **in the location that you installed from** - You have fooled the launcher into thinking that the cd is in place.
However I am still not completely satisfied, because every time you launch the program, Windows 7 requires administrator privileges (so my kids have to come and ask me for my password every time).
I used to have Reader Rabbit for my daughter and we launched from the hard drive without the CD Rom. What error message are you getting? Are you sure you copied everything from all discs?
For us, I remember opening the folder and looking for the launcher. It has a ".exe" file extension (in Windows). Finding the right file is the challenge! If you click on it and it starts the game, you've got it. It was trial and error. Simply right click your mouse on that file and create a shortcut from the exe file where you want it, i.e, desktop, start menu, etc., for future use.
Hope that helps!
