Hp pavilion dv5215us laptop only show top half of screen with lines on the bottom. connect to an external monitor and all is fine. looks like a new lcd screen to me but what do i know. please help. If it is a screen how much would one cost and is it worth it

It most likely is the display panel but there is a small chance it could be the video inverter.A new display would be fairly expensive but a good used working one would be fairly cheap.If you could get a good working one somewhere like Ebay that has the inverter with it as well would be great and still alot cheaper than a brand new one.That way you will for sure fix it with both display and inverter.Your HP dv5215us is worth repairing, especially if its been good to you other than the display problem.
