I added ram but it isnt showing up
I bought an old computer from my mums work with a gig of ram i put another 512mb in and it is only showing up as 1gig i am befuzzled is there a bios setting or jumper setting somewhere because i dont have a manual

You cannot add a 512mb with a gig RAM sticks must be of the same size(mb) and installed in pairs
first off, I will assume you installed the stick correctly (using esd, and matching to the other sticks with the same speed, mb, etc... Since I dont know what system you have I know on the early models of dual architecture there are three slots but only the first two will show up (2-blue, 1-black) it was just a quirk and noone knows why
