I am charging my new Flip Ultra HD battery pak for the first time. The charging light is flashing, non-stop. I thought the light was supposed to NOT flash while charging. Also, should the camera screen be lit up while charging? If I need to charge the battery pak for 7 hours (as per the instructions), won't this be bad for my camera screen to be lit up for so long?
Video Cameras - Pure Digital - Flip Video Ultra Camcorder
1) remove the battery pack from the camcorder 2) connect the camcorder to a powered USB port on your computer 3) when the "Connected" indicator comes on, insert the battery pack into the camcorder 4) safe eject your camcorder from your computer 5) reconnect your camcorder to your computer 6) the battery pack should now begin to charge within the camcorder
I had the same problem with the light flashing instead of staying steady, I called and the help desk said this "should not be a problem". I then wondered if my screen was on as yours is while charging. I can't see the screen because the flip is screen down while charging. I lifted the computer up to look at the screen and saw a notice on the Flip's screen that said "It's really hot, charging paused". So, I'm assuming the flashing light is to inform you that the charging has been paused and maybe you should disconnect for a bit to let it cool off. I'm letting it cool off as I write this so I'll get back here if there is any further news.
What I see is:\r\n1) That`s not the temperature of the battery pack that is high 2) There is a high over temperature in the plug of the USB when we get the alert 3) The little sensor of the temperature of the pack is "feeling" the temperature of its cristal liquid screen. (you can see it near the (+) jack. up left side) May be if we transpose this sensor to the very botton of the inside of the camera batt pack place. So maybe it will read the correct temperature of the batterypack whiling its been charged.
I tried all the"fixes" for the battery problem but none worked. I love the camera so I emailed Amazon asking if they would give me a credit for the defective battery or I would return the camera. Amazon gave me a $30 credit to keep the camera as opposed to returning it. Using my own AA batteries is fine with me. ******************************************************** Hello, I'm so sorry to hear your Flip UltraHD Camcorder arrived damaged. It's really not a fix... but my NEW camera did the same thing... I put a box under it and it seems to be charging... a box under it so it's not hanging on the USB.
Let me first say I love the HD quality of the flipUltraHD BUT I could never get the battery to charge after the first charging of 1 hour.. I called the flip helpdesk and they ran me through a bunch of things... nothing seemed to work.. it would either charge 1 hour and then give me the Hot error message or charge for 10 seconds.. they recommended I contact seller and get replacement. 2 weeks later I got a whole new unit and new batteries.
Second Unit...
Still love the HD quality... but after 3 hours of charging started getting error message... came on about every hour.. suggestions from flip helpdesk charge with cover off.. I found out if the room or area where the flip was charging was cool then it would charge a little longer.. not a good fix... asked rep if it's suppose to be able to charge in one sitting... answer yes... and she told me that i should try the minoHD.. not an option because i liked the idea of AA batteries and the larger screen..
anyway tried to work with limitation and ended up returning item for refund.. battery problems too much for this mother of twin toddlers to deal with.. going to save up and get a small HD hard drive video camera... about $200 more but *crossing finger* hopefully it won't have the battery problems I had with the flip.
oh yea with both units i tried using the USB flip cable, the wall unit and all ports on my computer to charge it... all of which would error out with the hot message... again the rep said that it should not be getting that error message and suggest to try the miniHD a little cheaper and her kids used her's all the time and it charged with no problems.. hmmmm...I forgot I posted something here...

I cut the plastic wrap on the battery pack to reveal the fourth battery end.(2 batteries, 4 ends) and it's working.
