I am having an intel core 2 quad q8300 cpu and my board does not detects it. my mother board is intel dg31pr.it runs everything perfect but it does not show processor type in the BIOS & the column is blank!!! my BIOS version is PRG3110H.86A.0065.2009.0421.1559 also when i installed win xp 32bit sp2 & also sp3 it was showing intel pentium 3 xeon processor in the system properties. but when i installed win 7 ultimate it now shows core 2 quad. my other problem is that i have 4GB OF RAM installed on my board and it is detected in the BIOS but in system properties (win7) it shows 4gb 3.25 gb usable...!!!!!!!! it is strange that it is showing so because i am not using onboard graphics. i have an nvidia geforce 8400gs 512mb (i am fed up of this card & i am thinking of buying a new one what do you think of nvidia geforce gt240 1 gb gddr5 for gaming) my third problem is that i cannot keep my system on standby for a while it goes in stand by mode but starts up again immediately as if we have asked it to do so. is it happening due to my gpu? PLEASE GIVE ME DETAILED ANSWER
I would see if there is an update for your bios... For the less than 4 Gb check out the customer confusion article on the wikipedia website (funny thing was just reading it before i saw your problem) I am not sure on windows 7 if it will round off gibibytes to gigabytes but... i know video cards tho, and i would go with BFG gt260 or 9800 Gt etc I have 9800 on this comp and 260 on the other they play all games flawlessly, 9800 gt have also come way way way down in price good luck
First, your BIOS seems to have an error detecting the processor. Have you try updating the firmware for the motherboard? The manual should have plenty of information regarding BIOS update.
Second, ALL 32-bit OS will should you less memory than you have. Usually around 2GB to 3.5GB depending on your motherboard as well. If you upgrade to a 64-bit operating system, you should see all 4GB, if not, it will come close to 4GB. (GT240 with GDDR5 is a very decent card, of course, it's not the best since the more you pay, the better it gets. You can always get better cards, and you will also need to think about what games you will be playing. That card, no doubt, will run most of the FPS games perfectly fine.)
Thirdly, I believe that when it automatically comes back from standby, it is a software problem, not hardware problems. Windows XP, from my experience, isn't flawless. I have seen many problems like that. It can be a registry error, which is a pain. You can try repairing Windows XP you really need the Standby function.
