I am new to gimp and most of the instructions I have found on YouTube do not give enough detail or move too fast to follow. I need to clean up the white background of a scanned black & white line drawing image
Computers & Internet - GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program
There is various ways to achieve this. The quickest way is just to adjust the levels - Go to the menu marked IMAGE then hover over ADJUSTMENTS and to the right should be another menu, containing various options such as LEVELS and CURVES The easiest option is probably altering the BRIGHTNESS-CONTRAST. (Just up the contrast and up the brightness slowly and you should be able to see the impact on the image). More complex/precise options are available with LEVELS and CURVES. Both are pretty self-explanatory - just play around with the arrows on LEVELS and you will see the image alter. Or on curves, just click on the curve and drag to change the shape/add points. For high precision, the simplest would be to select a paintbrush from the toolbox and the colour white and just paint over the areas you don't need.
