I boot and my screen is hit and miss, so screens i see most i do not. worked intermitent, so times it would work, then it just stopped all together. i replaced the monitor and it works just fine. i then took my f417 to another computer and it is doing the same thing, i see some screeen but by the time it boots to the home page it goes black again. how can i determine if this is a power cord replacement issue of it the monitor is just done

Which version of the monitor do you have? Built-in power supply or external AC adapter?

If it uses externa; AC adapter, then you need to attach a car bulb such as 1157 using high filament to the adapter output and see if it still putting out 12vdc with load.
If it uses built-in power then you need to check the power supply section first.
