I bought a 98 Dakota, it started over heating, I changed the thermostat, and when I went to flush my radiator, it was plugged. Can they put something in the radiator to temporarily make the car run good? Should I change my water pump? what's the easiest way to get hte fan cowling off?
Drain the coolant when it is cold and pull off the upper and lower radiator hose. Put a garden hose in the radiator neck (after removing the radiator cap) and turn the water up gradually and let it run for 15 to 20 minutes or until the flow is constant. If your water pump is not noisy or leaking and the pulley is not wobbling then you should not have to replace the water pump. You may want to flush out the block with water also. Radiator cleaners dont work.a new water pump never hurt anything plus the impeller blades may be getting coroded off from coolant not being changed as required.the fan shroud should just unscrew you dont need to remove it from truck just take bolts out and push it back over fan then remove radiator
