I bought a nuvi 200 from a pawn shop. I checked the serial # with my local Police dept, and it did not show to be stolen. When I tried to use it, it said I had to enter an "unlock code".The pawn shop had failed to get this and refused to refund my money.I contacted Garmin, sent them the proof of purchase, they checked their files and did not find it to be reported stolen, but refused to let me send it in to be unlocked. How can I get it unlocked?
Well you definitely have a problem there... the internal software would need to be reloaded to remove the password.
Garmin doesn't let other people perform their repairs etc and there are no service documents available, the people who know how to do it are most likely only the techs at garmin.
can you connect it to your computer? have you tried the garmin web updater? http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
Let me know how it goes by adding a comment. Thanks, Ekse
There is no simple easy solution to this problem, afterall its made to protect the device in case its stolen.
Plug it to your computer, open my computer, does the nuvi appear there as a drive? try pressing f5 on the my computer page if it doesn\t appear, and try to unplug and replug. can you open it and what do you have inside?

This Model cannot be unlocked by a special code. the only way to unlock this particular Nuvi is to send it to the manufacture. If they refused to service you and unlock this device, i would contact a lawyer immediately. They are obligated to service this device if it was purchased properly and it is not stolen.
The Lock code was set by the previous user and, that lock code can only be cleared by a Nuvi tech. these techs posses special tech gear that is tuned to reset the main board, via SAT signal. Its totally done through the air(remote link). I find it hard to believe that they wouldn'tservice you but, it dose not surprise me at all.
Just to clarify, You must send your Nuvi to Garmine to get it unlocked. You must also send a valid product registration or proof of purchase along with the Garmine device. this is the only way. if they refuse to service you, contact a lawyer immediately.
