I bought an Alesis SR-16 drum machine from an online seller advertised as "new". I plugged it in, and it appears that my "new" machine has had all the factory preset patterns erased! Is there a way to restore the factory patterns? I happen to have another SR-16 unit with all the presets intact. Can I download the patterns from my old unit to my new erased unit? Is there ANY way to get back the factory preset patterns on my new SR-16?
Click this link directly Download the complete user guide (490 Ko) ---- the link is of the user and trouble shooting manual.in that all the possibilities which can be done are mentioned.you can try all the possibilities one by one. ------ and yes you can transfer data from one sr-16 to another sr-16 .first you will have to tranfer the data from sr-16 to your pc.then connect the another sr-16 and transfer the data to the erased sr-16. ---- click the link and check out the possibilities. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.
Turn the power OFF to both the BRAIN and the MIDI controller (the two powered boxes).
Press and hold the [Play] and the [Erase] buttons.
With both buttons held down, power ON the BRAIN.
Release the buttons and power on the MIDI controller.
Your unit is now back to factory default settings and should work if you dont got the other just turn the box off, (if you dont see what im talking about or have the other just turn off the box hold down play and erase button, then with both buttons down turn it back on. then once it starts up all the way release the play and ease button.
The SR-16 has 50 preset patterns that are built in, I do not think they can be deleted, if there are no patterns the unit may be defective, even if patterns can be reinstalled using an rmidi file or re-flashing the unit.
To reset an Alesis drum machine you have to hold down both Play and Erase buttons while you power on the machine at the same time.
If that does not work, the presets are held into an rmidi file , the Rmidi file is not available for download. I think it can be purchased contacting Alesis or Rmidi.
I quote from Alesis Rmidi page:
"A rMidi Import/Export File named 'Sr16PresetKits.xml' containing the Sr16 Preset Kits has been installed within the folder named 'Sr16' within the directory in which you installed the rMidi FrameWork software. You can Import these Kits into the rMidi Drums Control if you wish. "
Check if you have the file in the folder.
If not the Sr16 will allows you to export your User Drum patterns, but I do not think you can export factory patterns.

I do not think there is any easy way to reinstall the presets.
This were originally part of the firmware, and cannot be deleted by the user.
I think that the unit is coming from defective stock, try discussing this with the seller, he may be aware of the problem.
Regards,
If the internal battery is dead, it won't preserve settings. The 50 factory patterns cannot be deleted.
Call the seller and ask explanation, the unit is defective.
