I can record and play video clips on the camera but is unable to view them on the PC using Windows Media Player, Ifranview or WinAmp. Is there a propriatory software that I need to use? The PC is running XP SP3

Try to look for the format of the video inside the PC.
You can use quicktime or realplayer to view your video.
