I changed batteries and forgot how to reconnect. It is plugged in via USB, batteries are birght. I have pressed the connect button on the base. It flashes but the mouse does not work. I have pressed the connect button on the mouse as well

This is from the manual for the Logitech MX700 cordless optical mouse.
1. Press connect button on Base Station.
Its LED blinks green. 2. Press connect
button on mouse bottom. Base Station LED
turns solid green, and then off.
