The vehicle should be running, transmission in park. Locate the dipstick, normally near or around the transmission, pull it out and check where the fluid level on the stick is, wipe off the fluid and check level again, to confirm readings. Usally you put the fluid in thru the dipstick tube, a long funnel will help. Watch that you don't over fill the transmission with too much, check level often while refilling.
