If you're in a bind anything's better than nothing. it's best to stick with a certain brand though. Decide on a 10w-30 or 15w30, and stick with it. If not sure what has been in the engine before, change the oil and filter. If switching to a synthetic, definitely change the oil and then top off with the synthetic.
